The demons upper ranks are meant to be a little op and the uppermoon he's facing right now seems a little lackluster compared to his lower ranked counterparts. To match them in power is to be capable of beating them one on one with no aid. That being said, the upper ranks are meant to be powerful enough to overwhelm vastly superior skill and each uppermoon ranks up in power as you scale the ladder. So when people say as powerful as the uppermoons, then which one? Uppermoons 4 and 6 shouldn't even be comparable. Think of the uppermoons similar to the Arancars in Bleach.

I agree, the espada were terrifyingly strong even though the shinigami were also supernatural beings compared to the hashira who are still human and have to rely on skills alone to fight nigh endlessly regenerating foes. I think a more balanced comparison is the Sternritter

Akaza is a special case, almost no one can beat him because of his compass. And Uzui was the weakest of the Hashira. Tanjiro with the red blade and the mark could take upper moon 6, and maybe 5, solo at this point.

Not really. Even if rengoku got stronger, he still wouldn't be able to beat akaza. No hashira can beat akaza because of his compass needle. Manga Spoilers ahead: Akaza's compass needle is unavoidable unless a demon slayer is able to completely get rid of their battle spirit. Otherwise you stand no chance against akaza.

Yeah and Tanjiro and Giyu did it in the end. but you still cannot deny the fact that if Rengoku had all the volumes he'd easily be one of the strongest Hashira, sometimes people don't realise how strong the ability to control fire can be.

That just shows how many more leagues above Rengoku was. Even Tanjiro in this episode is still slower than Rengoku. It just looks like Rengoku is weak because he 1v1 one the strongest demons with no demon slayer mark
